Thanks for visiting my website, I hope you are enjoying some of the mixes I have posted on here. |
I first got into DJing in 2003. I had wanted to make a few mixes
of some of the music I had, to listen to in the car. I made a few mixes
for myself and friends and I received some good feedback, so I decided
to take it a bit futher and play on internet radio and create this website.
I have quite an eclectic taste in electronic music so expect to see
a range of music styles in my mix section. Also check out my production
section where I will post the tracks I have personally produced. I will
be constantly updating the mix and production sections when I have new
material so keep checking back.

When I started off DJing I decided to go the digital way as opposed
to the conventional 2 decks and a mixer. This decision was made due
to the fact I own very little vinyl as all my music is either in CD
or digital format. Also as I owned a PC it was also cheeper to go out
and buy an MP3 mixer rather than a set of Technics. Having a digital
setup is easier to rig up to the net but it means you have to lug round
a laptop and mixer when you are out and about.

Hardware - Hercules DJ Console.
The MP3 mixer I purchased is called the Hercules DJ console. It is
a USB device with a built in 24bit 5.1 surround sound external sound
card. So when you have finished mixing you can play it back in quality
stereo or surround. It can be plugged directly into an amp using its
selection of connectors on the back. As you can see it has all of the
functions of a standard mixer with a few extra buttons for assigning
special effects to, and a joy stick which can be used to select tracks.
The jog dials, like the ones you might find on CD decks can be used
to jog or scratch as required.
For more information, see HERCULES

Software - Virtual DJ
The software I selected is called Virtual DJ. This software is fully
compatible with the DJ Console (see above) and can be used to make excellent
mixes. Using the beat analyser it is possible to work out the BPM for
each tune to facilitate in picking and mixing the next one. By using
the loops function, sampler and all of the other special effects you
can make live remixes of your tunes. Once a tune has been loaded you
will be able to see how the song is built and where the breaks are for
mixing in the next tune. There is a variety of screen skins to use and
you can record mixes straight to MP3 format.

I've been enjoying electronic music since around the age of 14 and
went to my first rave in 1991 Called Evolution 'The Big Banana Party'
when I was 16 (see flyer below). I then found out about free parties
and hitched a lift to a Spiral Tribe one, and then I was hooked and
have been attending parties on and off since then.

In 1989 I purchased my first Electronic Music Album on CD. It was
called Ware's the House, and that along with Deep Heat 4 got me into
the whole scene. The music on these CDs is just or even more important
today as it was then.
